My Brooklyn Hamlet is based on Adelman’s life growing up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn, caught between an alpha male gangster father and a bohemian artist mother. Big laughs. Then, in 1995, her father killed her mother and married her aunt. Unlike Shakespeare’s Hamlet, who sought vengeance, Adelman enters the crucible of her despair and discovers the jewel of forgiveness.
